  • Project Selvedge Design Competition Challenge #6

    The Challenge:

This challenge kicks off and celebrates Missoula's First Annual Fashion Week. Each of our 3 remaining designers were asked to design a garment for a local boutique assigned to them by the judges. The designers were challenged to think about this garment as part of their own private line as well as a reflection of the aesthetic of the boutique and their customers. The participating boutiques were Greenlight, One Eleven, and Cloth and Crown.
The Budget: Each designer will be limited to $35 at Selvedge Studio
The judges: Aimee, Matty Hancock (our guest judge), Carly, and Mary
Joanna, with her model sporting a garment from "The Runnaway" line for Cloth and Crown, is this week's winner!
Jazmine poses with this week's model for and owner of Greenlight
Erin with this week's model for and owner of One Eleven
Designer Joanna, model, and Jenna from Cloth and Crown talk about the garment.
Jazmine's design and model work the runway.
Erin's model shows off the versatility of her garment.
Designer Joanna and boutique owner Jenna celebrate the win!
This was the last challenge before the finale (on May 2) and as such only 2 designers were picked to continue on: Joanna and Jazmine. Thanks to Erin for her participation in and contribution to Project Selvedge and Missoula fashion!
  • Project Selvedge Design Competition Challenge #5

    The Challenge:

This week the designers were challenged to design an adult ensemble (fashionable) based on their favorite children's literature character. Catherine, the Project Selvedge 2012 winner not only inspired this week's challenge with her blog: www.FawnsandFoes.typepad.com but she helped to judge and sponsor the show as well!

The budget for this week's challenge was limited to $35 and $45 for the winner of the LED challenge, Joanna.

    The Designers and Their Models

The winner, Jazmine, and her model inspired by Prince Lir from the book The Last Unicorn

Joanna with her model inspired by Mark Twain's characters Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn.

Christine and her model inspired by the book The Stinky Cheese Man

Erin with her model from the book Verdi by Janell Cannon

And since there have been three shows where no designers were eliminated...tonight the judges made the decision to cut Christine, and her stinky cheese dress. Thank you for participating Christine!

  • Project Selvedge Design Competition Challenge #3

    The Challenge:

This week we were assigned Cigarette Girls for a fun and vintage inspired challenge. Taking inspiration from the 50’s, designers were asked to make a garment that embraces the traditional meaning of burlesque. The garment needs to be theatrical and have a sense of humor. Unlike their usual show, this time the Cig girls will be showing for a family friendly crowd. The garments will represent the individual personalities of each Cig Girl. They had their pick of bargain basement cottons totaling 10 yards, which is a lot!

  • Project Selvedge Design Competition Challenge #2

    The Challenge:

The Architecture of Style Challenge is about style and fit. Who is your style icon? Design a garment that reflects your icon’s style, and make sure it fits your model. Took a Sewing Essentials class with Kate that developed their skills

Supplies will be: $40 at the shop plus your choice of 2 yards from this bin of random fabrics left over from our sale. Christine got $50 to spend.

We welcome our newest contest Erin, we are thrilled to have her however she had to be punished for her late arrival with 3 yards of white linen cotton as her only supplies.
